Well I know what your thinking…I’m already a day behind. But I’m not. I just have to finish “day 2″ before I can blog about it LOL. So now we should be good to roll and post everyday. So yesterday was interesting. It’s funny how just having a set purpose, mine being “be good to yourself” changes the perspective of how you control your day. You have control over your day and how you mentally attack it…Did you know that? I guess I forgot. So yesterday I jumped in with both feet. First and foremost I exercised. I know that seems like a no brainer, for a self proclaimed gym goddess, but I have been floundering with my exercise routine since we moved. So committing to do it, consistently is big, so yesterday I went on a six mile run. It was a little warm, 80+ degrees, so I had to walk a few times. Instead of beating myself up over it I decided to snap a few photos of Gods beauty at work and just enjoy the fact that I can run. Then the other thing I did for me yesterday was create a small reading nook in our bedroom. We’re still in a rental home and the hubs doesn’t want me painting or putting too many nails in the walls. Room wise it is smaller than our home in CT. The only place to relax is in the living room or bedroom. The kiddies and the hubs usually take over the living room so I get moved to the bedroom, but frankly I don’t always want to sit/lay on my bed. So I created this little reading nook with things I already had (score). I’ve always thought this little inset by the window would make a great window seat. But since I cannot build a window seat I’ll create the next best thing.
This is where I’m going to read my book group book and enjoy chamomile tea while reading some of the bible. When I was going through my bible study in preparation for my confirmation to Catholicism, (which you can read about here & here) the deacon I was working with asked if I had a special place in my home to read and pray, away from the craziness of life. It was something that has always been something I thought might be nice to do for myself but never did. So now I have it. I do want to get a stool for the chair and maybe a cute side table. But I think working with what I had it looks pretty good and it didn’t cost me a dime! I’d like to use it every night but at least 3+ times a week. So what did I use to quickly make this cozy spot?
2. The middle window has a small ledge where I put one of the books I’m trying to read as well as my nook with our current book club book downloaded, James Patterson’s Mistress. It’s an easy read…a page turner. On top of the books is a funny little sign my sister gave me for my birthday, and the small fabric hoop I also received as a gift at craft weekend from the lovely Jamie at Raising Up Rubies. She gave one to everyone at craft weekend with each individuals home state, I love it!! Check out her etsy store and get your state!
3. The wicker chair is from Pottery Barn. It’s pretty old, we got it the year we got married… that’s 17 years ago! eek! They don’t make the same one, but this one found here, is similar and it’s all-weather wicker, which ours is not. But its help up amazingly well. We couldn’t find a home for it in the living room so it’s been floating around the house. The Cushions I had recovered when we lived in CT.
4. The ivory afghan is an heirloom hand knit by my grandma Wyker. It’s like a warm hug from her every time I use it so special to me. The pillows were bought at an antique store in Woodbury CT when we lived there. It is made of antique linens the front was on old napkin.
So there you have it! My new reading nook! Can’t wait to sit down and relax at the end of the day today. So tell me do you have a small space in your house to relax and unwind?
